The increasing integration of renewable generation and the advancement of energy communities have reinforced the need for solutions capable of enhancing the operational flexibility of low-voltage networks. In this context, this dissertation analyzes the role of a community battery energy storage system based on lithium batteries within an energy community, considering the technical, regulatory, and operational framework associated with its application. The objective of this work was to evaluate the technical impact of integrating this storage system on power flow, voltage levels, and technical losses in the network through simulation in OPAL-RT HYPERSIM. To this end, an energy community composed of eight residential units was modeled, organized into two groups and supplied by a 15 kV/0.4 kV, 400 kVA transformer, based on real consumption and photovoltaic generation data with a 15-minute time resolution. The analysis considered representative scenarios for the months of February and June, with different levels of photovoltaic penetration and with or without BESS integration. The results showed that the impact of storage depends on seasonal conditions and the level of photovoltaic generation available. In February, photovoltaic generation alone had a limited effect on the transformer power peak, whereas the BESS showed a greater influence on the modulation of the network import profile. In June, the greater availability of photovoltaic generation more clearly altered the operation of the community, with reductions in power peaks, occurrence of reverse power flow, and improvement in the voltage profile. In this scenario, the storage system acted in a complementary manner, mainly by smoothing the temporal power profile and providing an additional reduction in losses. It is concluded that the integration of a community energy storage system can technically contribute to the operation of low-voltage energy communities, although its effect is not uniform across all the indicators analyzed. In the case studied, photovoltaic generation was the main factor responsible for improving electrical performance under conditions of greater solar resource availability, while the BESS stood out as a complementary resource for temporal energy shifting and modulation of power exchange with the grid.
