This study presents the planning and implementation of a preventive maintenance plan for forklifts in a raffia textile company located in western Santa Catarina, Brazil. The research, applied in nature and qualitative in approach, investigated the company’s current maintenance model and identified weaknesses such as superficial inspections, lack of standardization, incomplete records, and a predominance of corrective maintenance actions. To address these issues, maintenance management tools were applied, including the Criticality Matrix, FMEA, and document analysis. The matrix enabled the identification of the most critical forklift in the fleet, while the FMEA highlighted the most relevant failure modes and their contributing factors. Based on these findings, a structured preventive maintenance plan aligned with NBR 5462 was developed, along with a comprehensive training program for operators and maintenance personnel. The study demonstrated that standardized inspections combined with consistent operator training significantly improve equipment reliability, availability, and operational safety, while reducing unexpected failures and corrective maintenance costs.
