Despite being relatively new, the application of the area of diagnostic engineering is growing as existing buildings present loss of performance or pathological manifestations within a short period of time after completion. Among the pathological manifestations, the incidence of reinforcement corrosion stands out as being one of the most worrying and costly to recover in the construction sector. In this context, it is of great importance to understand one of the factors that most influence its emergence, the environment. Depending on the geographical position and climatic factors where a building is located, its behavior in the face of aggressive environmental agents is subject to performance that differs from that presented during the conception and design phases. The present study aims to survey the occurrences of reinforcement corrosion in the city of Florianópolis - SC, based on inspections conducted by a local company, seeking to relate factors related to exposure, age, and position in the building. To this end, 300 inspection reports developed according to technical diagnostic engineering procedures were evaluated, from which cases of reinforcement corrosion in different properties located in different regions of the city were analyzed. The results showed that factors such as proximity to the sea and position in the building (height and type of pavement) can be used as identifiers of the potential development of corrosive processes. Furthermore, the identification of a large early occurrence of reinforcement corrosion indicates the user's concern with preventive maintenance, as well as the need to improve the construction process and its production control with a view to increasing the time for reinforcement corrosion to appear and consequently reducing maintenance costs.
