Alongside other measures taken to deal with problems reported in the field in MLX timing belts used in Intelbras Speed Dome cameras, the present study was requested to evaluate the durability of this component, comparing samples from different manufacturers. It was necessary to develop an automated equipment for testing belts, where low cost components were used and many of these available from the company. The prototype was designed to test two belts simultaneously and simulate the failure in a reduced time period. With pieces modeled and made in 3D printer the design is simple construction and the use of electronic prototyping plate made the project possible to be conceived in a few days. Failure modes attributed to the belts were surveyed and tests mixing different degrading agents were performed with the purpose of evaluating their durability. Among the tests carried out are the climatic stress where variations of temperature and humidity are applied in the belts in use, thermal stress at elevated temperatures, exposure to UV rays, creases and over-tensioning.
