The superstructure loads are transferred into the ground through it’s foundations, therefore it is essential to examine the interaction of the foundation with the ground to ensure structural integrity and stability. This structural element is divided into two groups: shallow foundations and deep foundations, in which the first group diffuses the load stresses into the ground directly through the base; the second group does so by the friction of the shaft and/or the pile. Understanding that the cost of a building’s foundation amounts to a substantial portion of the total costs of a construction project, a case study was carried out of a multifamily building located in the neighborhood of Jurerê Internacional, Florianópolis, SC, in order to make a technical and economic analysis between two deep foundation types- the continuous flight auger pile (CFA) and the root pile. To carry out this case study, it was necessary to standardize and bibliographically reference concepts related to foundations, as well as understand the load-bearing requirements of the construction, create a geological profile of the terrain through the drilling reports, scale the load capacity for the pile by referencing three semi-empirical methods: Aoki-Velloso (1975), Décourt-Quaresma (1978) and David Cabral (1986), and lastly, budgeting, in order to successfully achieve the principal objective of this project.
