The smooth plaster coating is one of the alternatives to conventional mortar plaster, possessing various positive aspects. However, the lack of clear regulations, especially regarding minimum thickness, along with few studies on the performance of the coating in terms of adhesive strength, implies uncertainty about its use in buildings. Therefore, the objective of this article was to evaluate the adherence of smooth plaster coating on a structural masonry building, considering different thicknesses and surfaces. Executing the coating on the block wall and the mini-panel type slab, examining the influence of thickness on resistance, also the application on the slab with and without treatment to improve adhesion. With the performance of the pull-off test, based on ABNT NBR 13528 (ABNT, 2011), it was observed that the thinner coating resulted in higher adhesive strength. There was a linear variation among the three tested thicknesses, with the thickest one showing lower resistance. However, all remained above the value required by the standard. Regarding the slab tests, the resistance variation was only 0.1 MPa between the surface with and without treatment, maintaining a good margin above the minimum value (0.6 MPa). Therefore, the use of treatment is dispensed with for the situation presented in the article.
