This work was carried out on the concept of continuous improvement, and aims to reduce the process time to perform the alternator test, as well as increase the productive capacity of the electrical test laboratory and reduce the costs for the tests. The tool used for the development of the work was SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die), which is a tool of the Kaisen process. During the development of the work, visual inspection was performed, and this was not sufficient to obtain the desired results. It was decided to carry out the filming of the process to obtain greater detail. After being recorded, the process was exploded in a company-specific table for the development of the SMED tool, where 58 steps were established, of which 14 were considered changeable, being elimination, improvement, combination or simplification. The results obtained show an estimated increase of the productive capacity after the improvements of 18.16%, with reduction of the average test time in 15.5%, which generates an annual gain of R$ 57,557.50, with expenses for improvement was less than 1.7% of the gain.
