The drilling process is one of the main processes in the manufacturing industry, having a big influence in machining, encompassing about 30% of all machining operations and around 25% of one piece fabrication timing. In the mechanical industry, there are many types and models of drill bits that can be used in these drillings, but some of them have advantages over others in terms of wear, costs, cutting-edge geometry, among others. The inadequate choice of the tooling can bring an additional cost to the pieces fabrication and cumulatively less income to companies. This research aims to analyze the quality in the drilling of aluminum 7075 T6, with the use of a fast steel drill and a hard metal drill, both with propeller angle N type; which of the substrates will present a better roughness, dimensional quality and less burr formation. The experiment was accomplished with practical testing in a vertical machining center. A sample specimen model was developed to analyze the performance of the tools, with the accomplished testing it was possible to observe through measurements made with machines by light beam and optical profile projector, rugosimeter and with the help of a tridimensional machine; which was the drill that had the best outcome in dimensional quality, circularity, position, roughness and wear. With the results obtained in this work, it was possible to verify that both drills presented satisfactory performance, with several similar results in the evaluated conditions. These results allow better decisions in the selection of tools for small and large scale machining.
