The beginning of prefabrication of concrete occurred in the post-war period, due to the shortage of skilled labor in European countries and the need for large-scale construction, since then, civil construction has been able to evolve in terms of technology. and speed. Therefore, this type of construction aims to obtain a lower final cost of the work, in addition to enabling faster execution, and also having greater durability. In addition, building using light concrete panels with expanded polystyrene (EPS) as closing masonry proved to be very effective, as its use demonstrates several advantages, since it is a solution that allows for a lower weight. for the structure, in addition to being a reuse material and also an excellent thermal insulator. In view of this, this work aims to investigate lightweight concrete with the use of EPS since this material is gaining more and more notoriety in civil construction. For this, exploratory research was first carried out based on material already prepared, such as articles, standards and other works of a scientific nature of a qualitative nature. Finally, a practical experimental program was carried out, carrying out tests to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of two EPS concrete mixes, one of them with the addition of steel fibers. The result obtained with lightweight concrete showed a reduction of 34.8% in specific weight when compared to conventional concrete and the cost analysis showed that from an economic point of view, lightweight concrete slabs with EPS would bring savings of 47.85% compared to conventional ceramic block masonry.
