Different types of tests are used in the analysis of wear of materials, one of them is the pin-on-disk wear test described by ASTM G99. This work focuses on the assessment of the tribometer developed and built at the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina (IFSC), Jaraguá do Sul – Rau, through a laboratory research. Tests involving constructive form and instrumentation of the tribometer were performed, as well as adjustments in the equipment. As a way of checking the repeatability of the tests, ten samples of the SAE 1045 steel disc were tested in the IFSC tribometer, five of them with the applied load of 10 N and five with the load of 20 N, the sphere used was built of alumina. These tests were also repeated in an already validated tribometer located at the State University of Santa Catarina (UDESC), in order to perform a comparison of results. After the tests, the coefficients of friction, characteristics of the wear track and disk volume loss were evaluated. The material of the disk was characterized in its hardness Brinell and microstructure. A test with load of 10 N and lubrication was also performed on the IFSC tribometer. Thus, the results obtained in the tests demonstrated that, in general, the evaluated tribometer presented a good repeatability and reliability in the tests, requiring a better evaluation regarding the disk volume loss presented in the disk samples.
