The oceans play an important role in the world's economy and climate changes. Aiming in aiding research in oceans, this paper brings a coverage study of an IoT (Internet of Things) network, making usage of a gateway (GW) with LoRaWAN technology, with hardware and software on a Raspberry Pi, installed at Molhes da Barra in Itajaí - Brazil, which can be used to receive data from researches in maritime and coastal areas around the mouth of the Itajaí-Açu River. Alongside that, is presented a portable gateway capable of operating with internet connection with mobile cellphone data network, powered by batteries, which can be installed in points of interest, to make coverage tests, without the need for permanent installs. Commercial and prototype end-devices were used, installed in boats to verify the coverage of Molhes da Barra gateway and a point of interest with the portable gateway at Bombinhas - Brazil. The coverage tests of Molhes de Barra gateway presented transmission distances further than 5 km, enabling LoRaWAN uplinks receptions for the researches that could benefit from this tecnology.
