Computed tomography (CT) is a crucial imaging technique for the diagnosis and monitoring of several diseases, including cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). According to the World Health Organization (WHO), CVDs are the leading cause of death in the world. In this context, this study had as its main objective to establish typical dose values for cardiovascular disease protocols in a CT service in southern Brazil. A total of 262 chest and abdominal CT scans were analyzed, with clinical indications of cardiovascular diseases, such as: aortic aneurysm, acute myocardial infarction, Coronary Artery Disease, among others. The data were collected from exams performed between 2022 and 2023. Of the total of 262 exam data analyzed, 41.22% were from female patients and 58.78% from male patients. The typical DRL values found for chest protocols were: CTDIvol of 22.8 mGy and DLP of 486.2 mGy.cm; and for abdominal protocols: CTDIvol of 53.3 mGy and DLP of 1848.1 mGy.cm, for both sexes. The results found were compared with those in the literature and it was observed that the values of the participating service are higher than those found in the literature, possibly because it is a specific study for clinical indication of cardiac pathologies, which typically requires more exams with higher resolution resulting in higher doses. In addition, the absence of weight and height data and the lack of separation of data into age groups was an important limitation of this study. For future work, training is recommended for radiology professionals who perform CT exams, including guidance on the correct use of dose reduction techniques and insertion of correct information related to the exam parameters.
